Barcelona has a long history of jazz. Legends like Louis Armstrong played here and the Hot Club was one of the first jazz clubs to appear in Europe. Continuing in this tradition, the Barcelona Swing Dance Association, BCNSwing, was founded. We are a non-profit organization created in 1998, and are the first such organization in Spain.
We have three aims: First, to promote swing music and dance (Lindy-Hop, Boogie-Woogie, Jump'n'Jive, West Coast Swing, Balboa, Shag, etc.). Second, to provide a meeting place for everyone involved in the music and dance scene so that they may organize festivals of Swing, Lindy-Hop, Boogie-Woogie, etc., as well as find places to listen and dance to these types of music. And third, to maintain contact with other clubs and associations that have been appearing in Europe and the United States over the past several years.
To become a member of BCNSwing all you have to do is fill out the application form. The cost is 17 euros per year. Membership entitles you to discounts at various concerts and shops, keeps you on top of what's happening in the world of swing in and around Barcelona, and includes the association newsletter. Anyone who would like to organize swing-related activities or events is encouraged to get in touch with BCNSwing at our email address: junta@bcnswing.org
What do we do?
In order to achieve our goals of promoting and spreading swing dance and music, BCNSwing organizes events which also serve to bring together its members. Of these, one occur on a regular basis:
- Lindy al Parc: The first and third Sunday of every month we dance at the
bandstand in the Parc de la Ciutadella. From October to April it's from noon to 2pm, and from May through September from 6 to 8pm (Note: occasionally the event is moved to just outside the main entrance of the park, at the end of Passeig Lluís Companys).
Our activities are open to anyone, and are used to inform the general public, who usually gather around to watch, about swing dancing and related activities in Barcelona.
At the calendar ot our web you will find this and other activities which are not so regular as the Lindy al Parc or the Savoy or which are organized by other entities. It is the reference calendar for swing activities in Barcelona and surroundings.
